Donation and Membership FAQ
Thanks for your interest in supporting Mike’s leadership campaign!
The link to donate, and to join as a member in support of Mike’s campaign, is the same: Support 2026 Leadership Candidate – Mike Morrice.
In order to join as a member, you must visit the link and either:
- Click on “One Year Party Membership” and donate at least $10
- Click on “Three Year Party Membership” and donate at least $25
Note if you are between the ages of 14 and 29 (inclusive), you can join as a member without a donation! To join as a member for this age bracket, complete the youth membership application.
Below you will find answers to common questions we’ve received about donating, and joining as a member:
Do I get any tax credit for my contribution?
Yes! Up to the first $400 you donate, you receive a non-refundable tax credit of 75%. You then receive 50% back on any amounts between $400 and $750, and 33.3% back on amounts between $750 and $1,250.
What is the maximum amount I can contribute to Mike’s leadership campaign?
$1775.00 is the maximum that you can contribute.
Can I contribute if I already gave to the federal party this year, to another party’s leadership campaign, or to Mike’s local campaign in Kitchener Centre?
Yes! You can still give up to $1,775 – unless you have already contributed to Nira Dookeran’s campaign, in which case this amount needs to be subtracted from the maximum. In any given year, you can give up to $1,775 to each political party in Canada, up to $1,775 to any mix of local candidates and campaigns, and then also up to $1,775 to all leadership contestants in a particular leadership contest.
What is the minimum donation in order to get a Green Party of Canada membership and vote in the leadership contest?
The minimum donation is $10 for a one-year membership, and $25 for a three-year membership. Both will give you the right to vote in the leadership contest, provided you join before 11:59pm on October 14th.
I made a donation but didn’t join as a member. Can I still join?
Yes! Email membership@greenparty.ca and let them know you made a donation and would also like to join as a member.
Can permanent residents join as a member as well?
Yes! Both permanent residents and Canadian citizens 14 years and older can donate or join as a member.
Is my membership information disclosed publicly?
No – your membership record is shared only with party organizers, and isn’t made public. Memberships combined with donations over $200 in one calendar year are disclosed publicly by Elections Canada, and donations between $20 and $200 are included in a financial return our campaign is required to provide to Elections Canada, but is not made public.
What is expected of me if I join as a member of the Green Party?
Members of the Green Party promise to follow the party’s constitution, code of conduct, and policies – for example, not harassing other members. Members are also expected to not be a member of another federal political party at the same time, and to agree with the six values of the Green Party: non-violence, participatory democracy, sustainability, ecological wisdom and diversity. Members are given voting rights – for example the right to vote in this leadership race – but voting is not mandatory. There is no requirement to volunteer as a member.
