Yes! You can still give up to $1,775 – unless you have already contributed to Nira Dookeran’s campaign, in which case this amount needs to be subtracted from the maximum. In any given year, you can give up to $1,775 to each political party in Canada, up to $1,775 to any mix of local candidates and campaigns, and then also up to $1,775 to all leadership contestants in a particular leadership contest.

The minimum donation is $10 for a one-year membership, and $25 for a three-year membership. Both will give you the right to vote in the leadership contest, provided you join before 11:59pm on October 14th.

No – your membership record is shared only with party organizers, and isn’t made public. Memberships combined with donations over $200 in one calendar year are disclosed publicly by Elections Canada, and donations between $20 and $200 are included in a financial return our campaign is required to provide to Elections Canada, but is not made public.

Members of the Green Party promise to follow the party’s constitution, code of conduct, and policies – for example, not harassing other members. Members are also expected to not be a member of another federal political party at the same time, and to agree with the six values of the Green Party: non-violence, participatory democracy, sustainability, ecological wisdom and diversity. Members are given voting rights – for example the right to vote in this leadership race – but voting is not mandatory.  There is no requirement to volunteer as a member.
